AI executions produce effects: a message sent, a trade flagged, a case closed, a record written. Regulators and auditors want to know who authorized the effect, under what policy, with what evidence. A typical log tells them what the system said it did — not what it did.
The distinction matters when something goes wrong. A narrative reconstructed from partial logs is a narrative. A replay that reproduces the same result from the same inputs is a proof.

External data replays if we saved it.
Market prices, web fetches, vendor API responses, LLM outputs — the platform captures each one into the event stream. A replay six months later uses the saved copy, not a live call. Strong as long as we captured.
Uncaptured external state does not.
A model the provider has deprecated, a vendor API that rewrote its history, a tool that retired — these sit outside the replay envelope. The platform tells you in advance which part of a workload is in this bucket. You size your audit posture to what’s covered.
